Gold, Silver and Bronze returned to become fashion

Gold, silver, bronze – You’d think fashionistas the world over are waiting at the edge of their seats for the Olympics looking at the amount of shine in their outfits. They may or may not be, but for me, I’m a helpless magpie when it comes to metallic garments, and 100% appreciate the coated, sprayed on, metallic fibered pieces that are having their moment in fashion. Although it’s odd how they’ve managed to spill over from the holiday season. Maybe because it’s still snowing in places?

Whatever the case, designers and high street brands have been enabling our magpie tendencies by providing us with a substantial amount of the shiny. Take Prabal Gurung’s Spring 2012 collection with the beautiful blues and purples, including the perfect specimen of grunge-gone-glam, those trousers, last spotted on Elettra Weidermann at New York Fashion Week. (see first picture below)

Clearly, designers have not limited themselves to shades of actual metals, which is brilliant. Take a peep at more examples of metallics on the Spring runways below, and steal a few ideas on how to do metallic looks in the daytime just as well as the at night. The Lyn Devon outfit in particular is casual chic at its best and still dressy enough for an evening party.

The next batch is made up of the funkier metallics. They don’t feel as precious as the champagne golds or silver pailettes and are more miles more rock and roll. As much conversation starters as they are clothes, these allow you to be a one woman disco ball at the party. The separates just make any outfit feel more special.

So the next time you’re out shopping, look out for metallic pieces to incorporate into your outfits. You may find that all it takes is a little shine to make a style statement. I leave you with some glitzy pieces for some everyday gleam and gloss.
